National Standards for Grade Levels 9-12
Explore the basic types of chemical reactions, mole ratios, and the stoichiometric equivalents central to chemical calculations. The series of four experiments includes an electrochemistry decomposition reaction, a series of single replacement reactions, a series of double replacement reactions, and a study of reaction coefficients. Students are encouraged to predict possible products, as well as write and balance equations representing the reactions. Students will discover the quantitative nature of chemical equations and the experimental basis of numerically balancing coefficients. Includes a lab quiz. Kit includes all required chemicals and supplies for performing experiments on a microscale. Allow 30 minutes for experiment 1, 30 minutes for experiment 2, 45 minutes for experiment 3, and 30 minutes for experiment 4. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Contains lead nitrate.
