Explore the unique characteristics and importance of fish and marine plants; two major living resources of the ocean. Students study the relationship of form and function in fresh fish specimens (not included), examining fin shapes and sizes, body shapes, mouth size and shape, color and camouflage and relate these characteristics to habitats and behaviors. A dichotomous key may be used to identify fish by genus species. Students study the rate of photosynthesis by measuring oxygen production in marine plants. Allow two one hour lab periods, one for each activity. The photosynthesis experiment requires follow up observation and graphing after 3 days. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four.
