National Standards for Grade Levels 9-12

Students explore the effects of surface area, heat, concentration, and catalysts on the rates of chemical reactions. Using four different neutralization reactions and colorful acid base indicators, students measure chemical reaction rates by timing the specific color changes. The worksheets included focus on factors which affect reaction rates and their commercial significance. Includes all required chemicals, worksheets, reproducible laboratory procedures, and answer keys. Allow 90 to 120 minutes lab time. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Required, but not included: hot water bath, ice bath, and common laboratory supplies.
