National Standards for Grades K-4

 

Four intriguing, age appropriate activities introduce young students to physical changes as they explore the physical properties of solids, liquids, and gasses. Materials are provided for student to (1)identify examples of phase changes, (2) investigate what happens to matter as it absorbs or loses heat, (3) explore what happens when changing the size of a substance, and (4) identify what happens when changing the shape of substances. Instructions are included for a Make Your Own Water Cycle Terrarium extension project. Includes reproducible student data sheets and assessment questions. Allow two hours of lab time to complete the four activities. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Required, but not included: microwave, clock, ice.
