National Standards for Grade Levels 9-12
Chemical Formulas II includes more challenging stoichiometry than Chemical Formulas I. Students experimentally derive the correct chemical formulas for iron hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium phosphate, and Iron Phosphate by combining chemicals in various ratios and observing the combination that produces the greatest yield of precipitate. Using the ratio of the optimal combination, students derive the chemical formula for the newly formed products. Includes all required chemicals, reproducible procedures, vocabulary, supportive worksheets, data sheets, and answer keys. Allow approximately two and one half hours of lab time: includes four forty-minute experiments. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four.
