National Standards for Grade Levels 8-12
Chemical Equations II introduces students to decomposition and synthesis reactions. Changes in chemical and physical properties are observed for each of the four reactions. The concepts of catalysts and reactions that require heat are introduced. The kit includes all required chemicals, reproducible procedures, a vocabulary exercise, and reproducible worksheets emphasizing balancing
equations, valence, writing chemical formulas, and identifying reactants and products. Allow one-hour of lab time with subsequent observation time after 12-24 hours. Designed for 24 students working in groups of four. Required, but not included: Bunsen burner (optional) and general laboratory supplies.
