National Standards for Grade Levels 6-12

 

Includes eight experiments in which students investigate types of paper, inks, pencil marks, erasures, typewriting, and handwriting. They use visual and microscopic observation, UV light, chromatography, replicating techniques, and wet chemistry to detect forgeries of checks, documents, and messages. The experiments culminate in the creation and analysis of secret messages. Includes instructional manuals and reproducible student worksheets. Required not included: Microscope, UV light, hot plate (or heat lamp or oven), lemon juice or milk, erasers, cotton balls, Scotch tape, small jars, watchglasses or beakers. Allow 4-5 hours of lab time.

Designed for 24 students working in groups of four.
